Today Wednesday 21 May 2025, we released our stats on the number of emergency food parcels that Leeds North and West Foodbank provided within our local communities between April 2024 and March 2025.
The worrying new figures reveal that we have provided 18,344 emergency food parcels to people who couldn’t afford the essentials in North and West Leeds over the last twelve months 6,352 of these went to children. This is yet another concerning increase of 14.6% on the number of parcels distributed in 2023-2024
In addition to this, food banks across the Trussell community collectively provided nearly 2.9 million emergency food parcels to people experiencing hunger and hardship in the past year, with more than 1 million of these going to children.
Food banks are a last resort for people who’ve been left isolated, facing hunger, and without enough money to live on, and this year we have found ourselves at Leeds North and West Foodbank having to buy in up to £3,000 of stock each week as sadly donations are not keeping up with need.
That’s why we’re calling on the public to play their part and support their local food banks in any way possible, to help provide emergency food for people facing hardship.
Food banks offer hope, dignity, and relief to people facing hardship. Our food bank needs vital funds to ensure we can continue to provide services beyond distributing emergency food, such as our advice and support services operating from each of our centres that unlocks money and services someone should be getting, as well as debt management advice, and other services aimed at helping people out of financial hardship.
Your generous support makes a huge difference. You can help make sure our food bank can continue to provide warm, compassionate, practical support and advice in the year ahead by donating food or funds to help end hunger here in Leeds.
As we navigate meeting the need for our services, we would be incredibly grateful if you could please consider:
- Donating food or toiletries at one of our donation points or directly to our warehouse either in person or via our online shop
- Making a financial donation by cheque, via standing order, in cash, or , online,
- Joining us in volunteering in one of the roles currently available
Thank you for standing together with us. We recognise how challenging things are right now, which is why we are so grateful for your support.
Together, we will be there for people who have been left without enough money to live on. And together, we will make a transformational difference in Leeds so that no one needs Leeds North and West Foodbank to get by.
